Big sister’s an inspiration for Ava

SIX-YEAR-OLD Ava Da Silva from Berala says her inspiration to enter the 2018 Miss Mini Diamond Australia competition comes from her big sister nine-year-old Sienna who was born with no thumbs.
Fundraising through the pageant for the Limbs 4 Life, a charity which has helped her family, Ava says her big sister refuses to let her disabilities slow her down.
"She tries everything new," Ava said.
"If she fails one thing she gets up and does it again. Kids used to bully her and then she started her own YouTube channel. Now, she's a celebrity."
Mum Katherine Moffatt says she and her partner Daniel Da Silva are proud of all of their "amazing children" with the entire family including sons 12-year-old Kobe and 18-month-old Leo all supporting Ava's pageant entry.
"They are always pushing themselves to go that extra mile and every single one of them helps Sienna every way they can," Katherine said.
"Ava absolutely adores Sienna and looks up to her.
"She is inspired by how hard Sienna tries. Both girls are dancers at Berala Physie, where Sienna's disabilities have never been an issue."
Katherine says they are sponsored by Memphis BBQ pit, the Australian Barbecue Society, Life Photos with Radim Spitzer and Able Corporate, with Ava doing Australia Day fundraising at the Memphis BBQ pit food van sites in Parramatta Park and at the Holroyd Gardens in Merrylands.
Other fundraisers include a charity cruise with motorbikes and classic cars on February 11, as well as a tea party and a cinema screening of Jumanji at Reading Cinema Auburn still to be confirmed.
The pageant final will be held at Brisbane Convention Centre on April 6 and 7 this year and for more information visit facebook.com/avadasilva11.
