ONE man has died and two others are in hospital with serious leg injuries after all three were trapped in a vat at a factory in Auburn earlier today.
Emergency services were called to the manufacturing business on Chisholm Road at 8.45am after the men, believed to be aged between 30 and 40, became trapped.
NSW Ambulance superintendent Paul Turner said two of the three patients were extricated and transported to hospital.
"The first man has been released and transported to Westmead Hospital with multiple leg fractures in a stable condition," he said.
"The second man was released a while later and sent to Westmead with similar injuries and again in a stable condition."
"The third patient unfortunately died on scene, this is a terrible tragedy."
"We had ten ambulance resources on scene, along with NSW Police and Fire and Rescue NSW."
"We did absolutely everything we could."
"It was a complex operation. We worked as quickly as we could to access these patients."
Efforts to recover the body of the third man, who is still to be identified, are continuing.
Officers from the Flemington Local Area Command are investigating the incident along with representatives from Workcover.
