Families met for a special lunch to mark National Carers Week.
MARKING National Carers Week, which runs from October 15 to 21, families from Autism Community Network (ACN) Cumberland region, gathered for a special lunch at Dooleys Lidcombe Catholic Club on Sunday.
Network Founder and father of a child with Autism, Steve Drakoulis said meeting with other parents and carers in social settings was important.
"Caring can be socially isolating - events like this get people together, where they can share information, build networks and develop friendships with others who understand," Mr Drakoulis said.
Group facilitator and Lidcombe mum, Lucy Doherty said National Carers week recognises and celebrates the outstanding contribution that unpaid carers make to the community.
"It was lovely getting together - we come from all walks of life, backgrounds and cultures and what we share is that we all love someone with autism," she said.
ACN is a registered charity, and runs regular free events for families impacted by autism. For more information, visit autismcommunity.org.au.
