NEWTOWN indy band Bad Pony and St Peter's three-piece JuliaWhy? are among the 10 finalists in the inaugural state-wide Rockin' the Puburbs competition run by the Australian Hotels Association (AHA) NSW.
Receiving almost 300 entries from bands, duos and solo artists around the state, CEO John Whelan said they were pleased by the success of the competition.
"Many national and international music acts first got their start down at the local, and the goal of Rockin' the Puburbs is to find top local talent and help them establish themselves in the industry," he said.
"This new initiative continues the hotel industry's long and proud history of support for live music acts.
"We are pleased at the great response, and thrilled at the quality of the finalists."
Rockin' the Puburbs is also backed by APRA AMCOS and the Live Music Office, with Aussie music legend Mark Lizotte (Diesel) acting as the competition's official ambassador.
The winner will be announced on November 8, and will pick up a $15,000 prize package which includes gigs at hotels across NSW in 2017/18, a dedicated tour publicist, mentoring sessions with industry ambassadors and a performance at the AHA NSW Awards for Excellence on November 21.
