AN elderly woman escaped serious injury when her car careered off the road and crashed onto railway tracks at Panania on Monday.
The woman, believed to be in her 80s, was taken to Liverpool Hospital after her car crashed through fencing, coming to rest beside railway tracks near the Carson Street rail bridge about 2pm. The sedan hit a large tree, which fell onto the tracks, disrupting rail services.
The woman was assisted from the vehicle and did not appear to have suffered serious injuries; however, she was taken to Liverpool Hospital to be checked as a precaution as well as undergoing mandatory testing.
Inquiries are continuing.
Police are urging anyone with information to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
