A CAR found burnt out in Boundary Road, Chester Hill, is believed to have been involved in a drive-by shooting in Merrylands last week. Just after 8.30pm last Wednesday, police were called to Merrylands, where they found a 21-year-old man suffering several gunshot wounds to the leg. He was treated before he was taken to Westmead Hospital in a stable condition. Police were told a man fired shots at the man before getting into a white Audi 5 with two other men and driving off. The car, believed to have been stolen, was found burnt out in Chester Hill about 10.15pm. Investigations continue.

Gun amnesty chance
THERE is less than one month left of the National Firearms Amnesty. Since the amnesty commenced on July 1 to September 6, 14,466 firearms and firearm-related items have been handed in for registration, sale or destruction across NSW. This includes 5,886 firearms surrendered to police and dealers, 7,204 handed in for registration and 1,376 acquired by dealers. Surrendered items of interest include nine SKS assault rifles, three .45 ACP Colt 1911 pistols, and 13 silencers. There have also been 170 prohibited weapons surrendered to police. Acting Assistant Commissioner Dave Donohue, Major Events and Incident Group Commander, says the results from the first two months of the amnesty are encouraging. "We have received a strong response from the community so far and it's telling us that people are keen to do the right thing," he said.
"There are hefty penalties for possessing unregistered or prohibited firearms, so now is the time to dispose of them without penalty."
Firearms and firearm-related items can be surrendered under amnesty arrangements at approved drop-off points, which include licensed firearm dealers, mobile stations and police stations. Under no circumstances should loaded firearms be taken into public places - including police stations. For more information, visit firearmsamnesty.ag.gov.au or call 1800 803 041.
