CONSTRUCTION starts this month on the new skate space at Sydenham Green.
The skate park, which was first proposed in the 2013 Plan of Management and Master Plan for Sydenham Green, has been enthusiastically supported by the local community.
The new skate space will incorporate a variety of skate types including transition, street skate and a bowl.
It is just one of a number of planned improvements at Sydenham Green, including a new playground shade structure, and the replacement of the existing half court basketball court with two full sized basketball courts which will include Roller Derby track line marking, lighting, bike parking and seating.
As well, the council will develop an interpretive space on the site of the former church on Railway Road.
Construction on the new skate space commences soon. During construction the portion of the park bound by Henry Street, Railway Lane and Railway Road will be closed to public access.
The facility will incorporate many environmentally-friendly and community-minded features and opens in early 2018.
