Proving they can hold their own against bigger clubs on the pool deck, Alex Quach, Rachel Wood and Ricky Betar from the Auburn Swimming Club, each collected a swag of medals at the 2017 NSW 13 and Over State Short Course Swimming Championships.
MORE than holding their own against some much larger teams a 19 medal haul including a dozen gold medals, saw the six-member Auburn Swim Club finish in fourth place at the NSW 13 and Over State Short Course Swimming Championship held at the Sydney Olympic Park Aquatic Centre over the weekend.
In one of their best results, the Auburn Club was also sixth on the point score after tallying 770 points, with coach Clinton Camilleri noting that they got the competition off to a great start winning a gold medal in their very first race of the competition on Friday.
Finishing the competition with six gold medals and two silvers from nine events, 16-year-old Alex Quach blitzed the field in his events, while 13-year-old Ricky Betar also swam exceptionally well to take home five gold, a silver and a bronze in his freestyle, breaststroke and backstroke events.
Fresh from winning two silver medals at the World Games in Poland, 18-year-old Rachel Wood added another gold and three more silver medals to her trophy cabinet.
