RESIDENTS can grab themselves a free tree in celebration of National Tree Day on Sunday, July 30.
Council's Urban Forest Manager Gwilym Griffiths said the trees are all advanced size and Australian natives.
"Council is committed to increasing our 'urban forest' – and this is a great way to help us achieve our goal," he said.
The free trees include Banksias, Illawarra Flame Trees, Lilly Pilly trees and more.
"They'll make an instant impact in people's backyards, and on our local tree canopy," Mr Griffiths said.
"Trees provide a multitude of benefits including providing shade and cooling, reducing energy costs, increasing property values – and the obvious environmental benefits such as oxygen production and pollution reduction," he said.
Council will host the free tree giveaway at Steel Park Marrickville, between 10am and noon, as well as a community tree planting event.
