CUMBERLAND Council held a minute's silence last week to honour Robert (Bob) Downing who died on June 30. Ken Morrisey praised his former colleague, who served as a Holroyd councillor for 19 years including a stint as Mayor in 1990 and deputy mayor (1986-1989), describing him as "very much a grass-roots person" and always ready to listen.
Parking tickets discounted
NEW parking concessions for visitors and patients at Auburn Hospital came into effect on July 1. Under the new policy, a three-day discounted ticket will cost a maximum of $10.90 and a seven-day ticket $21.70, and both allow multiple entries and exits. An app and website with details, including eligibility criteria, is available at parking.health.nsw.gov.au.
Knafeh restaurant pops up
BRINGING Jerusalem street food to the streets of Lidcombe the infamous Bearded Bakers will open their pop-up Knafeh restaurant at 15 Olympic Drive from Friday, July 14 to 21. Operating out of a repurposed shipping container from 6pm till late, the Knafeh bakery offers plenty of entertainment alongside traditional styled dishes based on family recipes. Jump in holiday injuries
TRAMPOLINE injuries, including a four-year-old boy who injured his elbow while on a jumping castle at Guildford, were high on the list of call-outs by NSW Ambulance paramedics in the first week of the school holidays. Urging close supervision of children on trampolines, Inspector John Brotherhood said many children are injured while jumping with others.
