Trio beat up, rob man in car


Police cordoned off the area where a man was allegedly stabbed in Bankstown Plaza.

POLICE are appealing for assistance following a robbery and assault at Punchbowl on Saturday.
About 4.45pm, a 47-year-old man had arranged to meet a 40-year-old woman on the corner of South Terrace and Punchbowl Road, Punchbowl.
While the man was seated in his vehicle, an unknown man has approached the driver's side window where they had a short conversation about the 40-year-old woman. The unknown man has then opened the rear driver's side door and sat behind him.
A short time later, two more men approached the vehicle, opening the car doors, with one man sitting in the front passenger seat, while the other man sat in the rear.
All three men began punching the 47-year-old man multiple times to the face and torso. The altercation continued out onto the roadway. The injured man managed to break free and run to a nearby licensed premises for assistance.
The three men fled the scene on foot with the man's mobile phone and car keys. They were last seen running north along South Terrace towards Bankstown.
The injured man was treated by paramedics before being taken to Bankstown Hospital with suspected facial fractures and a broken nose.
Bankstown police would like to speak with three men who may be able to assist with inquiries.
The three men are described as being of Mediterranean/Middle Eastern appearance, aged in their 20s.

Holdup thwarted
A MAN has been charged after an alleged attempted armed robbery outside a Revesby shopping centre on Friday. Police have been told a man allegedly armed with a firearm, approached a man outside a shopping centre on Selems Parade just before 10.45am. Two men had allegedly jumped out of a car and a third person remained in the vehicle during the incident. The three men fled empty handed in a vehicle. No one was injured in the incident and no shots were fired. On Friday evening, a 36-year-old man went to Bankstown Police Station, where he was charged with attempted armed robbery with a dangerous weapon.

Theft and assault
A WOMAN was taken to hospital for precautionary scans after she was bowled over during a shoplifting incident at Bankstown last Thursday. About 5pm a man left a supermarket with items he didn't pay for, before he was stopped by staff outside the store. The man tried to run, knocking over a woman in the process. He was restrained and police were called. The 30-year-old Lidcombe man was charged with common assault and shoplifting.

Home drug farm
A BANKSTOWN man has been charged with cultivating a commercial quantity of a prohibited plant and dealing with property the proceeds of crime, after the discovery of hydroponically grown cannabis in Bankstown house on Friday. About 8.30am, police searched the Chelmsford Avenue house following an investigation. Police found the 27-year-old man inside the house and numerous cannabis plants being grown within the rooms of the premises. There was a sophisticated system being utilised to grow cannabis within the house with the use of light globes, electrical transformers and a watering system.

Speeding and fled
A MAN was arrested and charged following a pursuit with police in Hammondville on Sunday night. Just before 9pm, Bankstown Traffic and Highway Patrol were travelling along the M5 near Henry Lawson Drive, when they noticed a motorcycle come down the on-ramp of the motorway allegedly travelling at high speed. Police attempted to pull the rider over; however, he accelerated away from police allegedly reaching speeds of 200kmh. The pursuit was terminated and police exited the M5 taking the Moorebank Road exit. Police noticed a motorbike crashed on the medium strip with no rider. A search of nearby bushland found a 36-year-old man. He was not injured and charged with police pursuit, exceeding the speed limit over 45kmh, unregistered/uninsured vehicle, disqualified driver, stating a false name, unauthorised number plate and a warrant.

Stabbed in plaza
A MAN has been charged with wounding a person with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, carrying a cutting weapon and possessing a prohibited drug after he was refused a cigarette in Bankstown Plaza last Tuesday. About 10am on Tuesday, the man was sitting at an outdoor table at the cafe when he was approached by a man asking for a cigarette. He refused the request and the man moved on to ask other people for a cigarette. A short while later, the man was stabbed. Police and ambulance were called and he was taken to hospital. Police were alerted that the 31-year-old Bankstown man was nearby and he was arrested.
