East Hills resident Beverley Packer has produced her first book at 86.
PROVING that you're never too old to work toward a dream and have it come true, Bankstown's newest published author is 86-year-old Beverley Packer of East Hills.
"I keep asking myself why it took so long," Mrs Packer explains.
"My husband had died and he was a very inspiring primary school teacher and loved English and history so I thought, just to get out of the house, I would look for a creative writing course.
"It was great to discover that a women's writing course operated locally in Padstow, with the amazing Silvana at the helm as our guide.
"I started about five years ago and in that time, my confidence and skills grew. When my son said that my grandson wanted to be children's book illustrator when he grew up, I thought 'that's what I'll do, I'll write a children's book'."
With an educational as well as a fun component, Mrs Packer's book, 'The Bee Who Lost His Buzz', is aimed at six and seven-year-olds.
"My neighbour, also a teacher, has read it to her Year 1 class and thankfully, they really enjoyed it, with more people now ordering copies as word gets out," she said.
To order a copy of the book for $10, call Mrs Packer on 9773 5768 and for further info on joining the writer's group, call Silvana on 9707 3570.
