A BANKSTOWN family are devastated after their pet parrot (pictured) was stolen on Good Friday.
Sandra Yammouni believes the rare, small South American parrot, known as a Han Macaw, was stolen from its cage between 1pm and 5pm on Friday.
"We were out for the afternoon, and arrived home to find the door open," Sandra said. "There were lots of feathers in the bottom of Bella's cage, and that's why we believe she was stolen, like she had put up a struggle."
The Yammouni family bought the parrot two years ago for $1,000.
"She's become part of our family. We're gutted," Sandra said.
"She greeted us every morning, and she was often brought inside."
Sandra believes Bella is still in the Canterbury Bankstown area, and hopes neighbours of the thief may hear her parrot's repetitive and distinctive cries of "Hello Bella, watcha ya doing".
"She's also pretty good at swearing too," she said.
Sandra is offering a reward for the return of Bella, who is green with a tint of orange on her inner wing. Anyone with information, can call Sandra on 0410 522 667.
Bankstown police said they had a report of a stolen, rare pet bird on Good Friday and are investigating.
