ONE of the first to try the new splash play area at the Auburn Ruth Everuss Aquatic Centre in Lidcombe, was Ayla Agar and her four-year-old daughter Nisanur (pictured).
"I absolutely love that it's back," Ms Agar said.
"Nisa loves it too. I think we will be here every weekend if she has her way. It's definitely been worth the wait."
Along with Review, the pair had a sneak preview of the facilities on Thursday as work continued to complete the finishing touches before the pool opened to the public on Saturday.
Closed since June 27, 2015, the $27 million makeover took a few months longer than expected with familiar dive pool and platforms now gone.
However the original 1959 grandstand has been refurbished, and new facilities include an outdoor splash pool with a water slide, an indoor program pool, gym and modern change rooms.
Other facilities include a 50m outdoor pool, a 30m x 25m outdoor water polo pool, and an indoor 25m pool, with all the pools now heated and with access for people with a disability.
Centre manager David Burns from pool operator Belgravia Leisure, said 500 people had already enrolled in their learn to swim and water safety program.
Cumberland Council general manager Malcolm Ryan added that the pool would be open year round so families could take refuge in summer and still keep active in the cooler months.
"Importantly, the facility has different spaces for children, recreational and elite swimmers, as well as a top notch learn-to-swim service and holiday programs. There really is something for everyone."
An Open Day including free entry, activities, demonstrations and giveaways will be held to officially launch the pool on Saturday, April 22, 10am-3pm.
