TO celebrate National Youth Week this week, Mission Australia's Bankstown Canterbury Youth Service and Bankstown Early Intervention Prevention Program (EIPP) will team up with local youth services to host and participate in a slew of local events for young people.
The Bankstown Adventure Challenge will be hosted by Mission Australia's Early Intervention Prevention Program (EIPP) and will take place on Saturday, April 1.
Bankstown's participants will start at Paul Keating Park in Bankstown and embark on a quest to tackle a range of activities and games.
The series of local events will culminate in an exciting celebration at Paul Keating Park with the Bankstown Youth Fest on Saturday, April 8, between 2pm and 5pm.
Mission Australia will join with local youth services to put on an afternoon of live entertainment.
Young visitors will also be treated to free rides, sports, food as well as a range of health and wellbeing activities.
Budding young film producers are also encouraged to try their hand at creating a short film based on the theme 'Get involved, be heard, make a difference' to be in the running for a chance to showcase their creation at a special viewing night in Bankstown on April 7.
Mission Australia Program Manager, Lucy Klianev said the program of Youth Week events offered an opportunity raise awareness of youth homelessness and the supports available to local young people.
"Youth homelessness really can affect any young person. We find it concerning that one of Mission Australia's Youth Surveys indicated one in seven young people are at risk of homelessness," she said.
During Youth Week, Mission Australia is also encouraging Australian young people aged 15-19 years old to participate in the 2017 Youth Survey.
To take part in the survey, go to missionaustralia.com.au/youthsurvey. Share the word on social media using #YouthSurvey2017
The survey closes on July 31, with results to be analysed and released before the end of the year.
