A GUILDFORD teenager was lucky to escape serious injury after rolling his car at Lidcombe following an alleged attempt to avoid an RBT site in the early hours of Sunday morning.
Officers were conducting random breath testing on Parramatta Road at Homebush at 1.40am when the p-plate driver - who had been stopped for testing - allegedly drove off.
Police gave chase before calling off the pursuit a short time later and they allege the driver continued west along Parramatta Road before losing control at the intersection of Bombay Street in Lidcombe and mounting the footpath.
Hitting a brick fence, the car continued into a light pole before hitting three vehicles parked in a car sales yard and then rolling onto its side.
When police arrived on site they were told the driver had left the scene, however Public Order and Riot Squad (PORS) officers arrested a 19-year-old man a short distance away.
He was taken to Westmead Hospital with minor injuries and also underwent mandatory blood and urine testing.
Fire sees 30 evacuated
ABOUT 30 people were evacuated as a precaution after a fire broke out in a unit at Auburn Central last Tuesday.
The first of six Fire and Rescue NSW (FRNSW) crews arrived on the scene just after 12.15pm and were able to extinguish the blaze in a first level unit within 15 minutes.
No-one was inside the unit when firefighters arrived and no injuries were reported.
Firefighters were able to contain the fire to a single unit and the cause of the fire is under investigation but is not being treated as suspicious.
